The Royal Borough is consulting residents on locations to install easy to use street lamp post charging points for electric vehicles in the borough.

Lamp post charging points enable electric vehicle users to have better access to electric charging stations, and thereby removing one of the barriers to greater electric vehicle ownership. The benefits of lamp post charging points is they can be easily installed and allow for electric vehicles to simply park up and plug in, meaning no cables running from homes across pavements.

A trial programme of charging points will be installed in locations across the borough, and residents are being asked to go online and tell us where they think lamp post charging points should be located.

The trial, which is part of the European Union funded Sharing Cities programme and the London Go Ultra Low Cities Scheme which is funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, is part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich's commitment to become a Greener Greenwich.

'Use of electric cars has risen rapidly'

Denise Scott McDonald, Cabinet Member for Air Quality, Public Realm and Transport, said: "The use of electric cars has risen rapidly in recent years and we want to ensure that Royal Greenwich is at the forefront of that movement. Lamp post charging points is just one of the ways we will be driving the uptake of electric cars in the borough this year."
