The 178 bus route is being rerouted this coming weekend to better serve the needs of residents of Kidbrooke Village.

After a lobbying campaign from local residents, the Royal Borough and local politicians, the 178 will be rerouted with direct bus links between the eastern side of Kidbrooke Village and Lewisham town centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Woolwich town centre.

The original bus routes in the area had been altered to take into account road alterations under the Kidbrooke Village Masterplan. However, the Council has supported local people in lobbying Transport for London (TfL) to ensure residents across the area get access to bus services.

New route

The amended routing will have buses running in both directions along Cambert Way, Ryan Close and Tudway Road in a clockwise direction, instead of directly along Kidbrooke Park Road. Towards Lewisham, the 'Cambert Way' bus stop in Kidbrooke Park Road will no longer be served. Alternative stops are available within approximately 250 to 430 metres.

The new bus routing comes into force on Saturday 2 June.

'Welcome news for the residents of Kidbrooke Village'

Councillor Denise Scott McDonald, Cabinet Member for Air Quality, Public Realm and Transport, said: "This is welcome news for the residents of Kidbrooke Village and something that we at the Council have been campaigning on for years. Major redevelopments like Kidbrooke Village are much needed but we must ensure that crucial services like buses and local transport continue to meet the needs of the local community."
