An illegal tobacco haul of almost 3,000 illicit cigarettes has led to a business being fined £7,550.

This was one of the largest fines issued by a court for a Royal Greenwich prosecution in recent years.

The haul of illegal tobacco - 2,790 cigarettes - was seized from Maistas and Gerimai on Herbert Road in Plumstead by Royal Borough Trading Standards officers and tobacco sniffer dogs.

The case was heard against Mandris Ltd and the owner and director Mr Andris on 16 April 2018 at Bexley Magistrates Court. Mr Andris pleaded guilty to all the charges. Madris Ltd was fined £5,920 with surcharge of £170 and costs of £750. Mr Andris was also personally fined £1,630, totalling fines of £7,550.
