Cisco invests in Digital Enterprise hub

Digital Enterprise Greenwich is playing host to the first UK 'hub' of the 'National Virtual Incubator' launched by Cisco Systems and aimed at driving innovation and helping new businesses to flourish.

Cisco - one of the world's leading technology firms - is heavily investing in technology and IT at a number of 'hubs' or 'nodes' to make it easier for start-up businesses to communicate electronically and share data with each other.

Cisco officially launched the National Virtual Incubator in November 2011 along with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and other founding partners Ravensbourne, JANET (UK) and Birmingham Science Park Aston, home to the other first  hub alongside Digital Enterprise Greenwich.

Prime Minister David Cameron praised the scheme as a significant example in driving new economic growth through high-tech innovation.

The network will span the entire UK as the nodes connect to research clusters, higher-education establishments and science parks over the JANET network.

Start-up businesses, including those based at Digital Enterprise Greenwich, will be able to visit a node and connect to other organisations in the network, to share resources, pool ideas and develop business partnerships to help them innovate and grow.
