Housing advice for victims of domestic violence
There are several options in the short term and long term, and leaving home for a short time need not mean that you have to give up your housing rights.
Dont make any major decisions, such as giving up your tenancy, until you have had clear up-to-date advice. Our housing department has a policy on domestic violence and will be able to give you advice on what to do.
Women's refuges
Women's refuges can provide somewhere safe to stay for you and your children.
You can contact a womens refuge via the National Domestic Violence Helpline or Greenwich Women's Aid.
Housing support
For emergency advice, or to find out what your options are, you can contact the Royal Borough of Greenwich's Housing Options Service. The help offered will depend on your circumstances and your immigration status.
You can also contact Greenwich Housing Rights for independent advice and support.
The Shelter housing advice line can offer emergency housing help.
Council tenants
If you are a council tenant, contact our Housing Services team for extra security on your home (if you don't live with your abuser). Let us know if you have had to leave home, or you can ask for an emergency transfer.
Private tenants or owner-occupiers
If you are a private tenant or an owner-occupier, contact the Housing Aid Centre.
