Bulky household waste
What is a bulky waste 'item'?
For the purposes of bulky household waste collection, we define an item as something that is naturally bought as a set.
Some examples are:
- a three-piece suite
- bedstead (or divan) with mattress
- dining table and up to six chairs.
This definition does not include retail special offers, such as a kettle, toaster and iron bought as a set.
Ask your retailer
When you purchase new electrical items, the retailer has a responsibility to take back the old goods free of charge.
When you purchase large items, for example sofas and beds, it is also worth asking the retailer if they will take the old one away.
Other types of waste
Bags of waste - that is, general waste, rubble, garden waste - do not count as bulky household waste. The special collection service will not pick these up.
Put your general waste out in the normal way for doorstep collection.
Textiles
Clothing, shoes (in pairs in a bag), sheets, towels, blankets and curtains will be accepted via the free textiles collection service - run in conjunction with the special collection service.
