Conservation area appraisals

Explaining the architecture and history of conservation areas

The Royal Borough of Greenwich uses conservation area appraisals to explain the architecture and history of the conservation area concerned and what makes it special.

Original character

The appraisals help to encourage good design and repair methods that are sympathetic to the original architectural style and features of the building.

They will also help the Royal Borough determine planning applications for external alterations with the aim of maintaining and restoring the original character of the area.

The Royal Borough is producing conservation area appraisals for most of Royal Greenwich's 20 conservation areas.

Adopted appraisals

The final version of the appraisals will be background documents supporting the Local Development Framework that forms adopted planning policy.

The Royal Borough will also produce a detailed guide to the types of changes that can be made in each conservation area. Most of the adopted appraisals are available on this website in low-resolution format.
