Early years practitioner

We are looking for a person with at least three years' experience to join a friendly not-for-profit, 30 place day nursery.

  • Salary: £16,000
  • Hours: 35 hours per week term time - shifts between 7.45am and 5.30pm
  • Location: Alderwood Road, SE9 2LR
  • Start date: September 2017

Main duties

The main duties for this role include:

  • being responsible for the care and education for children under 5 years old
  • being a key person for a group of children keeping progress records, observations and report writing.
  • setting up activities, to contribute to the planning and record keeping for the nursery
  • being aware of health and safety in the workplace, to have an understanding of safeguarding children.
  • working with children both inside and in the nursery garden.
  • undertaking a range of activities and projects with the children such as reading stories, writing, construction, messy play, outings/trips.
  • supervise children during meal times.
  • assist children with toileting and change nappies.
  • to take part in staff meetings, staff training, parent reviews and work with any other agencies or visitors to the setting if the need arises.

Essential criteria

Candidates must be able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team and must also have:

  • childcare level 3 qualification
  • paediatric first aid certificate
  • food hygiene certificate
  • safeguarding certificate
  • a current DBS check.
