Statutory Sick Pay
Claiming sick pay
If you are working and unable to work because you're ill, you may be able to claim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
Find out more about the rates for SSP by visiting the DirectGov website.
Some employers have their own schemes and will pay money on top of this.
How to claim
Tell your employer when you are sick. A few people cannot get SSP - your employer must give you form SSP1 if this applies to you.
What if I'm still sick after 28 weeks?
Claim Employment and Support Allowance if you are still sick after your SSP stops. Your employer must give you a form SSP1 confirming that your SSP has ended.
Some people may be able to claim Income Support on top of SSP - do seek advice about this.
