What is the Right to Buy scheme?

Buying a council home

If you have been renting your council or housing association home for at least five years, you may be entitled to buy your property at a discounted price.

Your discount is based on the number of years you have spent as a public sector tenant.

Where can I get help?

The Home Ownership Service team will be happy to give advice and guide you through the Right to Buy process.

They will:

  • confirm if you are eligible for Right to Buy
  • arrange for your property to be valued
  • inform you of the price of your home
  • calculate the discount you are entitled to.

Is the scheme right for me?

There are lots of things to consider when thinking about buying your home. Make sure you are aware of the ownership costs before you make your decision.
