Wheel clamping
What to do if your vehicle is clamped
The Royal Borough of Greenwich only enforces parking on public highways and in council-owned car parks. If your vehicle is clamped, here is some information to help you.
On public highways
We do not wheel clamp vehicles on the public highway. Instead, parking tickets are issued.
If your vehicle is clamped when parked on the public highway, it may be for one of the following reasons:
- your vehicle has been clamped by the Driving Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) as it is not taxed, and documentation left on your vehicle will confirm this. In this case, you will need to contact the DVLA compound in Belvedere, Kent
- a bailiff company has clamped your vehicle. You will need to contact the company concerned.
On council estates
You must have a valid permit to park on a council estate or council estate road. Wing Security permits can be obtained from Royal Borough of Greenwich's housing services team.
Parking enforcement on council estates and roads includes wheel clamping, as indicated by signs.
If you have any queries about permit areas or visitor passes, you need to contact the Royal Borough's housing services team.
On private land
If you park on private land or in a private car park, you must comply with the rules that apply.
Private landowners are entitled to organise their own parking enforcement, which may involve wheel clamping by a private company to stop motorists parking illegally. The possibility of wheel clamping must be shown on signs.
All wheel-clamping companies must be licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). You can contact the SIA for more information.
