A re-affirmation of vows ceremony

A re-affirmation ceremony is a very special way to enhance your celebrations for your special anniversary or to get your family and friends together to share with you your commitment to your marriage or civil partnership and each other. Your own personally designed ceremony presented by our experienced celebrants will make the occasion really a day to remember.

Why renew your vows?

A re-affirmation ceremony is suitable for couples who wish to celebrate renewing their vows in a unique and personal ceremony.

It is often associated with a special anniversary but it is appropriate for couples at any stage who wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other. A re-affirmation ceremony is also very popular with couples who had married or formed their civil partnership abroad to celebrate with their larger circle of family and friends.

The ceremony

Re-affirmation ceremonies can last up to 30 minutes. If you wish to choose your own music, you may bring your own CD.

At the heart of the ceremony will be your wish to re-affirm your vows to each other. There is also that special choice to make your new vows to each other publicly with your circle of friends and family. It may be your choice to thank special members of your family like your children or parents for all the support they have provided.

Most couples choose to have rings included in the ceremony - you can either re-dedicate the rings from your original ceremony or have new rings. The rings can be presented by the best man from your original ceremony, a new friend or child or whoever you want to include. You may prefer to give a token of the re-affirmation you are making. Whatever choices you make, we are here to help make this a special and memorable occasion.

Arranging your ceremony

We offer ceremonies on most days at most times. To design your unique and personal occasion, we will arrange an appointment for you to meet a celebrant.

At the end of the ceremony, you will receive a special certificate commemorating the ceremony. They make a lovely memento of the day. The commemorative certificate is included in the Registrars fee.

Please note that in a civil re-affirmation of vows service none of the music, readings, words or performance that form the ceremony can be religious in nature. The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Superintendent Registrar attending the ceremony. The ceremony has no legal status and the commemorative certificate cannot be used for identity purposes.

Important: We are legally obligated to make sure your guests are aware that they are attending a re-affirmation of vows ceremony.
