Boarding animal licence

In order to keep a boarding establishment for animals, by law you need a licence from the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

How to get a licence

Please contact Pest Control, and we will post the application form to you.

Complete the form and send it back to us. You also need to send us a cheque for the licence fee of £265.20, payable to 'The Royal Borough of Greenwich', with your application.

We will send an officer to visit your premises. This officer will check that you are complying with the relevant legislation and our licence conditions.

If you pass the inspection, we will issue you with a licence. This licence is subject to our standard conditions, and may also contain special conditions that are only applicable to your premises.

Where a licence is granted, that licence and any subsequent licence will expire on the 31 December of the year to which the licence relates.

You must renew your licence before this date if the premises are to continue as an animal boarding establishment.

Offences and penalties

The following offences and penalties apply to the keeping of animal boarding establishments:

  • anybody found guilty of keeping an animal boarding establishment without a licence may be fined up to £500, or imprisoned for three months, or both
  • anybody found guilty of failing to comply with the conditions of their licences may be fined up to £500 or imprisoned for three months, or both
  • anybody found guilty of obstructing or delaying an authorised inspection may be fined up to £500.

If found guilty, your licence may be cancelled and you may be disqualified from keeping an animal boarding establishment.
