Why teach in Royal Greenwich?
Teach in Royal Greenwich and you can take advantage of everything a world city like London has to offer.
Royal Greenwich lies on the south bank of the River Thames. The Royal Borough is steeped in history, with the town centre being designated a World Heritage Site. The capital's oldest Royal Park, Greenwich Park, offers panoramic views of London and the iconic O2 Arena.
As one of the five boroughs hosting the 2012 Olympics, the area is benefitting from significant investment with unprecedented regeneration and economic growth.
By 2020 over 30,000 new jobs will be created through the London Thames Gateway programme and a major modernisation programme for local services and transportation will be developed.
Our community
In common with any city, Royal Greenwich faces significant challenges with contrasting affluence and deprivation. Tackling inequality is a top priority in education as well as in the wider community. Our challenge is to ensure that all children have the best start in life.
Successful regeneration, neighbourhood renewal and improving service performance, including raised levels of performance, are creating the best opportunities for young people in Royal Greenwich for many generations.
Our schools value and celebrate diversity. In Royal Greenwich, we have four nursery schools, 64 primary schools (including 14 faith schools), 12 secondary schools (including two academies and four faith schools) and four special schools.
These schools provide an education for over 32,000 children aged between five and 16.
What makes Royal Greenwich such a vibrant and exciting place to teach is that:
- Royal Greenwich pupils speak over 120 different languages
- 50 per cent of our pupils are from an ethnic minority background
- approximately 30 per cent of our pupils speak English as a foreign language
- our pupils are looking forward to being involved in the 2012 Olympics, with Royal Greenwich hosting six Olympic and three Paralymic sports.
