Control how you spend your care money

A personal budget is a sum of money allocated by the Royal Borough of Greenwich to organise your care and support. You receive a Choice and Control personal budget when you have a support plan agreed to by us after a series of assessments.

The personal budget gives you more flexibility over what you can spend your money on. There are a few rules to prevent abuse, but in general, you can spend on any goods, services or support that meet your eligible social care needs.

Control how you manage your money

Ther personal budget gives you a number of different options for how you want to receive and pay the money for the services, goods and support you need.

  • Direct payments give you the greatest amount of choice and control as you can manage the money yourself or have someone you trust manage it for you. We can also manage the money on your behalf and help you with arranging the support.
  • An Individual Service Fund (ISF) is money paid directly by us to an agency that supplies personal and domiciliary care. You then communicate directly with the agency about how and when the money is spent.
  • If you do not want to have this degree of choice and control then we will also set up services for you. This is how all services were previously arranged and provides the least amount of choice and control or flexibility.
