Food Hygiene Award scheme
What the food hygiene award covers
The scheme is about ensuring that food at catering premises is handled and prepared safely. It does not cover things such as how the food tastes or the decorative order of the premises unless this is likely to affect food safety.
The satisfactory conditions needed for receipt of the Award can only be judged at the time of inspection. The possession of the Award does not guarantee subsequent standards.
The scheme covers all businesses where catering is carried out, including but not limited to:
- Restaurants
- cafes
- takeaways
- pubs
- sandwich bars
- schools
- hospitals
- residential homes.
