Advice for street parties
Thinking about holding a street party? Here is some advice to get you started.
This information covers both street parties and community events. It covers events that:
- are organised by residents and neighbours for residents and neighbours
- are publicised just for residents, not for the general public
- don't need a licence (if you are unsure, see the paragraph on licensing at the bottom of this page).
Where to hold your street party
Usually a street party is in your street but it could be held on a grass area or even in a community hall. The main thing is that everyone in your street is invited.
When you are choosing where to hold your event please consider, as far as possible, places that will not affect access for buses and emergency vehicles.
Diamond Jubilee street parties
Most people are planning to hold their Diamond Jubilee street party during the celebration weekend, which runs from 2 to 5 June 2012. It's a good idea to plan your street party so that it doesn't clash with any of the other exciting events.
The deadline for registering your Diamond Jubilee street party is Friday 18 May.
This year the Big Lunch will take place on 3 June 2012. You can apply for a free Big Jubilee Lunch pack online.

Licensing
Most small street parties do not need a licence. However you will need licensing permssion if you:
- want a pay bar
- intend to provide entertainment to the wider public
- intend to charge for your event.
In these instances you will need a Temporary Event Notice, which costs £21. You can tell us more on your permissions form and then we will help you with this.
