Become a childminder

How to become registered

If you are interested in becoming a registered childminder the Families Information Service can advise you on the steps you need to take. Contact them at fis@royalgreenwich.gov.uk or 020 8921 6921.

It often takes more than six months to register.

The Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) gives advice to parents and childcare providers.

You can also find a quick guide on Gov.UK

Benefits

If you start working as a childminder, you may be able to claim a range of benefits.

Some benefits have special rules about earnings from childminding.

These rules mean that childminders are in some cases more likely to get benefit than people doing other types of self-employed work.

If you are working as a childminder or are thinking of becoming one, contact our Welfare Rights service for a free benefits check or for a copy of our Benefits for Childminders factsheet.
