Using licensed contractors

Self-certification schemes are special arrangements where contractors are trained and licensed to do certain aspects of the work in accordance with building regulations.

If you want to use these schemes, finding out about your contractor is very important. Check in advance whether they are eligible and registered with the appropriate scheme.

You can check whether your contractor is registered under the Competent Person Scheme on the Department for Communities and Local Government website.
