Guide to building regulations
Approval for building works
If you are planning to construct a new building, or extend or alter an existing building, you may well need building control approval.
Our building control team is legally responsible for checking that building works comply with building regulations. Building regulations cover health and safety, accessibility and energy conservation, among other things.
Before you make an application for works, make sure you need to apply and familiarise yourself with the regulations.
Works done without approval
If work has been carried out without proper approval, you should apply for regularisation.
Planning permission
Building regulation approval is entirely separate from the process of obtaining planning permission, which may be required for work whether or not the scheme is controllable or exempt under the building regulations.
