Quality management systems
Our British Standards Institution certification
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is certificated to ISO 9001:2008 by the British Standards Institution. We have been given permission to display the prestigious British Standards Institution logo as part of the annual re-accreditation of our quality management systems.
What is ISO 9001:2008?
The ISO 9000 is a set of standards that provide a best practice framework for the implementation of a quality management system.
Meeting the ISO 9001:2008 standard means that an organisation takes a common-sense and disciplined approach to its services and their delivery. It ensures that we have clear business objectives and a quality management system in place that delivers those objectives reliably and efficiently, day in, day out.
ISO 9001 ensures business and health and safety risks are minimised and saves money through service efficiencies and a 'right first time' approach.
Which services have reached the standard so far?
Currently, the BSI has certified the following of our services:
- corporate quality management
- parks and open spaces tree maintenance
- parks and open spaces (ISO 14001:2004*)

*ISO 14001 is a type of quality management system that has an emphasis on environmental management controls that deliver maximised positive and minimised negative environmental effects.
Importance of the BSI logo
For our customers, the BSI logo means that services are customer focused and are being delivered to a consistently high standard in a professional way. Continued improvements are being made at the heart of the service delivery.
The BSI logo ensures that customers' views play an important role in the setting of service standards.
The BSI logo also ensures that external legislation and standards including government performance indicators are being independently assessed, as well as the Royal Borough of Greenwich's own aims and values and locally agreed performance indicators.
