War pensions

Pensions for war veterans and their families

You may be able to claim a War Disablement Pension if you have a disability or an illness caused or made worse by serving in the armed forces or resulting from an injury received during the Second World War.

If your husband or wife died as a result of a disability or an illness for which she or he claimed, or could have claimed a war pension, you may be able to claim a War Widow's or Widower's Pension.

The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme replaced the War Pensions Scheme for armed services personnel for whom injury, illness or death is caused by service on or after 6 April 2005. You will not be affected by this scheme if your claim relates to service in the armed forces before 6 April 2005.

How to claim

Contact the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency by post, or ring the Veterans Helpline by telephone. You can also send an email. All the contact details are on the right of this page.
