What we offer teachers

The Royal Borough of Greenwich gives teachers access to support and incentives to work in Royal Greenwich.

Newly qualified teachers' recruitment event

On 25 November 2019, we're inviting newly qualified teachers from across the country to come and meet the schools in Royal Greenwich who are recruiting next year.

Over the course of the day, attendees will have the chance to hear from top speakers and and get advice from experienced professionals.

Working and living in Royal Greenwich can be your reality - a place where we can all learn, belong, grow and achieve.

School Workforce Team

Teachers and the wider workforce in schools have access to support from the School Workforce Team. They are able to offer advice and support on:

  • NQT induction
  • housing
  • childcare
  • professional development.

Newly qualified teachers' induction programme

Newly qualified teachers (NQTs) will find Royal Greenwich a fantastic place to begin their career.

We have developed an extensive centralised induction programme for primary and secondary NQTs, designed to complement the support provided in schools.

We work hard to ensure the statutory requirements are not only met but are exceeded, to provide a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.

Inner London pay scale

Teachers in Royal Greenwich schools are paid on the Inner London pay scale. You can find these salaries on the NASUWT (The Teachers' Union) website.

Professional development

The Greenwich Professional Development Centre (PDC) provides access to resources, training and information for all aspects of the curriculum and continuing professional development for all school staff.

Staff based at the PDC work with Children's Services to ensure the provision of training meets the demands and needs of schools. There is an extra training and support offer for behaviour, inclusion and attendance.

The PDC has been awarded the status of NVQ Centre, and currently delivers a qualification for learning mentors.

Childcare for teachers

We have many early years centres, before and after school play clubs and adventure play centres.

Teachers have priority at the private fee-paying Eltham Green Nursery.

Sharing best practice, staff wellbeing and support

The Royal Borough of Greenwich supports schools in achieving work-life balance for their staff in many ways.

An annual NQT conference in Royal Greenwich allows NQTs to network with colleagues and other education professionals, as well as take part in some reflective and innovative sessions.

Royal Greenwich is a member of the South London Collaborative for the Aspiring Leaders' Programme, subsidised by the National College, and we also offer other developmental opportunities for teachers looking to develop into leadership roles.

Many other opportunities for staff to take part in wider initiatives and training arise throughout the year.

Season ticket loans

Interest free season ticket loans for public transport are available. Schools have further details of how to apply.

Greenwich One Card

Royal Borough of Greenwich employees and borough residents are entitled to apply for a Greenwich One Card, which provides discounted services across Royal Greenwich.
