Voting by post
Postal voting arrangements
You can apply to vote by post instead of going to a polling place, without needing to give a reason. At present the government has no plans to introduce e-voting by text message, email or phone.
To apply to vote by post for future elections download an application form and return it to us, or contact the Electoral Office. The latest time that you can register to vote or change your postal vote details is 5pm on the eleventh working day before an election.
As a security measure, you must give your signature and date of birth when applying. These are used to compare against your signature and date of birth on a postal vote statement which you must return with your postal vote.
What to do if you forget to post your vote
If you forget to send your postal vote, you can take it to one of the polling stations on polling day and the polling staff will arrange for your postal vote to be sent to the count.
