We are looking for volunteers who live on the Flamsteed Estate in East Greenwich, to take part in an exciting trial to test new household technologies.
The pilot will involve high-tech devices, which will link to a residents’ boiler and will help it run more efficiently, typically saving 15 to 20 per cent off gas bills.
These smart thermostats can be controlled by an app or remote control. They will monitor and provide data on boiler conditions and building environmental performance, which can help us make evidence-based decisions for repairs and maintenance work. Data from the devices will be held securely according to the Data Protection Act and processed with residents’ consent.
The equipment is provided by Co-Control, whose expert engineers will install the devices in residents’ homes. A partner on the project, Groundwork London, will be leading on signing residents up to the scheme. We are looking for 25 to 30 households to take part.
As well as the opportunity to save energy and money, residents will receive a £20 shopping voucher for taking part. They'll also get access to energy saving advice provided by Groundwork London’s very own experts, Green Doctors.
An event will be held at Flamsteed Estate on Thursday 22 August, from 12pm to 5.30pm, where residents can speak to the Green Doctors, who will answer any questions about the trial.
Cllr Denise Hyland, Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Apprenticeships says: “We want our residents to benefit from the latest technology and this trial is a fantastic opportunity. Our residents on the Flamsteed Estate can reduce their energy usage in their homes and save some money. Also, with better data, the Council can make smarter decisions.”
The pilot is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to drive innovations that directly benefit residents.
